Oxidative stress occurs when free radicals outnumber the number of antioxidants you have in your body. Free radicals come from the normal metabolic processes of our cells.
For example, we use oxygen, in combination with food, to form energy that our cells can utilize. The chemical processes that achieve the formation of energy produce free radicals. When we breathe, we gather oxygen in the lungs and this is dispersed to all the cells of the body by way of circulation (blood flow).
The oxygen gives cells the fuel they need to function. When the cells use this oxygen to form energy, free radicals are formed. Most of us are likely under oxidative stress, and don’t even know it.
Thankfully, there are a few ways to naturally increase your antioxidant levels, and get your oxidative health back on track!
